Nickerson Family Legacy Foundation Awards Life-Changing Scholarships to CMHS Students

Seven Crete-Monee High School seniors from University Park have each been awarded $2,500 scholarships—renewable for four years—by the Nickerson Family Legacy Foundation. The scholarships, presented at a special event hosted by the foundation on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, represent a $10,000 investment in each student’s future and were made possible by CMHS alumnus Amon Jamal Nickerson.
The evening took an emotional turn when twin sisters Anaya and Ayana King shared their powerful story about their mother’s battle with cancer during their high school years. Moved by their courage and resilience, Mr. Nickerson made a surprise announcement: the foundation will fully cover both students’ tuition at the University of Illinois Chicago.
In total, the Nickerson Family Legacy Foundation pledged more than $80,000 in scholarships, reinforcing its commitment to uplifting students and strengthening our school community.
This remarkable act of generosity reflects the lasting impact of Crete-Monee alumni and the enduring ‘Warrior’ spirit. Even years after graduation, our alumni continue to invest in the next generation, helping students overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams.
